The Sims 4 Is Coming To Mac Next Month [UPDATE]

Well, it’s finally happening. Nested underneath an announcement about the game’s first paid DLC, The Sims 4 developers confirmed today that a Mac version will be arriving very soon. As in, next month. I know, I know: Took them long enough!(new Image()).src = 'https://capi.connatix.com/tr/si?token=995c4c7d-194f-4077-b0a0-7ad466eb737c&cid=872d12ce-453b-4870-845f-955919887e1b'; cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "995c4c7d-194f-4077-b0a0-7ad466eb737c" }).render("79703296e5134c75a2db6e1b64762017"); }); https://kotaku.com/the-sims-4-is-getting-an-outdoorsy-game-pack-next-month-1673213480 I spoke to a few people at EA about The Sims 4’s Game Pack yesterday (more on that in a moment), and at the end of our talk they gave me a few key details about the long-awaited Mac version of the game—a game which needs a Mac version more than pretty much any other game I can think of. Here are the main points I got from them: There isn’t a specific release date yet, other than the fact that EA said it’s coming out in February 2015. The Mac version will be the same price as the PC version. Current PC owners of the game will get a copy of the Mac version for free. Future customers will also get the same deal, EA told Yono all app me in an emailed statement after our original interview: “the game will be dual-entitled no matter when you buy it. All PC owners will also be entitled to Mac and vise-versa.” They also weren’t able to confirm for me if you’ll be able to sync up different versions of the game the way gamers can when playing cross-platform games on, say, Steam. I have no idea why they wouldn’t let you share households, Sims, and general game progress across different versions of the game, since doing so would be the main reason current PC players (like me) would probably bother to pick up the Mac version. But EA also doesn’t make it easy to share your Sims 4 progress between multiple PCs at the moment, so while that’d be disappointing, I guess it wouldn’t be all that surprising. UPDATE: EA got back to me today (Wednesday) with answers to two additional questions about the Mac version that readers have been asking about: The Mac version of The Sims 4 is going to be digital-only. So: no discs. From EA’s email: “PC customers will get full access to a Mac digital download. There is not a Mac disc version.” The EA rep also confirmed that yes, “you will be able to pull your save files from PC to MAC and vice-versa without a loss of progress.” Judging by the sheer amount Yono all app of emails and comments asking when the hell The Sims 4 is coming to Mac that I’ve received, I’d say that a lot of people will be delighted to hear that they’ll finally be able to get their hands on the new game—and so soon at that. Having a larger player base is exciting for all Sims 4 players too, though, since this is the kind of game that lives and dies by the nature of the communities that pop up in and around it. As for the “Outdoor Retreat” Game Pack? Well, that comes out today for $19.99. You can find more specific info about it in my original write-up of its announcement. I plan to start playing around with the thing Yono all app once I can get my hands on it today, and will have detailed impressions on it later this week. As is always the case with The Sims, stuff gets much more interesting once players get their hands on the game though, so I’ll be on the lookout for that as I prepare my impressions on the Outdoor Retreat.
